Cristiano Ronaldo, you should have consulted your notaire!
Even world football stars have to comply with planning and co-ownership rules…
Cristiano Ronaldo had a conservatory built on the terrace of his flat in Lisbon, without planning permission and without the approval of the co-owners' general meeting. The building's architect and the city council are requiring the situation to be regularised.
At David Notaires, we always ask buyers whether they plan any renovation or extension work. If so, we explain to them:
– that any external alteration, in particular building a conservatory, requires the appropriate planning authorisation from the town hall;
– that, if they are in a co-ownership building, the agreement of the other co-owners is required, according to the majority rules of the co-ownership regulations.
The procedure may seem cumbersome, but it aims to preserve the harmony and safety of buildings on the one hand, and to prevent nuisance between neighbours on the other.
And you, would you have made the same mistake as Cristiano Ronaldo?
