Can I change my matrimonial regime?
Yes! After the wedding, the matrimonial regime can be adapted or changed at any point in the couple's life by notarial deed.
A couple's situation can indeed change over time: one spouse may, for example, decide to start a business or, on the contrary, take a break from work to look after the children. These life choices have an impact on the couple's estate and may lead them to rethink the financial relationship between the spouses.
A change of matrimonial regime can then, for example, give more independence to the spouse who runs a business, or strengthen the protection of the spouse who devotes themselves to the children.
The matrimonial regime must be changed before a notaire. If there is an objection, court approval will be needed. Adult children and the couple's creditors must also be informed of the change.
